I think an activity like the one banting does is a great idea. I dont feel that grarde 9s would do this just to "fit in" because I would be more a way to be respected. all the students at Banting have done this and know how much fun it truly is and I do not think that it can be considered as hazing.
If IDCI came up with some sort of activity like this it would enhance or create the idea of unity within the school and make kids more proud of their school.

#14- Why do white people have black spots
The most memorable part from this video clip was the perspective that it was told from and how we were able to understand what children in africa are thinking, rather than us canadians, assuming. All of the kids in the video were very intelligent and the fact that they could speak two languages, one including my own language, is remarkable.
In my opinion, wester society is forcing their beliefs on developing countries and I dont feel that it is the greatest thing to do. I support what organizations do for developing countries (building schools and enforcing education) but I do not feel comfortable with the changes that are occuring because the kids in this video, for example, have so many questions and do not have an understanding of what if happening to their lives.
This was an excellent video and it really made you think from a different perspective and how these kids are true intellectuals and that is a remarkable thing.

#4-Pat Til
Pat Tillman is truly an inspirational man for leaving his football career to fight in Iraq for the United States of America. For that major step he made, I think Pat Tillman is a hero.
To me, the definition of a hero is a person that puts themselves in danger in order to help another person that is in need. Pat Tillman put his life in danger by going to Iraq to fight for his country and show how much he supports his country which I think is an incredible action on his behalf. He may not have ended the war, but he did show to others that anyone can stand up for what they believe in and give up everything they have to show their support.

Love the Label
I promise I will do blogs for the class, but this is important
Yesterday I went to the town of Lambeth with my mom and Mikayla where we went to a presentation about how our everyday products like shaving cream, cosmetics, and shampoo are all filled with chemicals.
the presentation started with a lady telling everyone to stand up, so we all stood. Next she asked anyone to sit down if we directly or indirectly knew someone that had or has cancer. Everyone sat down. She then says "This is what this presentation is about".
These products that we use everyday are one of the major causes of cancer and if we continue to use products from the grocery store or the drug store, we are going to increase our chances of getting cancer.
The presentation was presented by a group of girls from Nippising University and have realized that people NEED to stop using products that are filled with chemicals and use products that are certified organic, but most importantly, to use products that are completely plant based. no chemicals, no preservatives.
These girls gave us cards which have the 10 most common chemicals found in products like perfume, baby powder, and deodorant that we need to get away from. Lets just say after the presentation i realized that i am going to have cancer...All of these chemicals in products is what causes health issues like ovarian cancer, breast cancer, hormonal imbalance and even skin irritation. This needs to stop.
After this presentation, I realized that this organization could be the easiest way to change peoples perspective on the environment. Yes people that care for the environment are thinking of the future and want to make sure that the ozone layer won't be depleted in the next five years, however they are really thinking of their own health and other peoples health. I think of the number of people that use Proactive as their facial cleanser and realize that they are allowing their skin to absorb a number of chemicals because lets be honest, that facial cleanser works because it is chemicals inside and out (that gross plastic bottle and packaging it comes in)
I guess I am trying to say, look at your labels and don't be green washed by companies and start to live in a healthier and safer way by using plan based/vegan/organic products

Last night I watched this film that was on MTV and it was about how the internet affects teenagers. The one character sends nude photots to a fake person who she thinks is real, this couple only has a relationship over video chat, one girl cannot has a relationship with her boyfriend over text messaging, but the most intense part of the movie was when over 1000 people watch a young male commit suicide over a video blog. At the end of the movie so many teenagers don't understand why someone didn't help him and how people didn't know what was going on with him.
Regardless, it was a fantastic film that was worth watching because it showed how terrible the internet can be to teenages and I feel that we all need to be careful on what we post to other people. It also showed the importance of helping people when they are in need in order to stop kids from committing suicide .

#2-the leader within
I think that we are all capable of acts of leadership within. Even for people who are shy and kept to themselves have those leadership qualities within them because I believe that they care for people deeply without others even realizing. I think there will always be a time where people will be able to take action and become the leader that is within them regardless of how serious the circumstance is. We may not realize it at first but our parents, or the ones that look out for us, are leaders because according to my definition leaders try to make situations better for the ones they are "leading". The ones who look after us and care for us have always put themselves second and make sure that we are happy and to me that is a leader. They have to make decisions and follow their first instinct given any situation.
#1. What is leadership
My definition of leadership is taking initiative in a certain situation that is for the better of the people. Leadership is also completing and following through with you plans or goals that you want to achieve. I chose that definition because I thought of myself and thought of what I do as a leader. Of course, I cannot speak on behalf of all leaders in the world, but I believe that all leaders do put others before themselves and attempt at making situations better for everyone else.
